Former England international and Queensland State-of-Origin star Ben Te'o has signed for the Japanese Sunwolves outfit in Super Rugby.

Te'o will debut in the competition next year, after completing a short stint with Toulon in the French Top 14.

The 32-year-old cross-code centre was omitted from England's World Cup squad, after an off-field altercation with fullback Mike Brown during an August training camp.

Te'o won 18 caps for England and toured New Zealand in 2017 with the British & Irish Lions, playing two tests, and was viewed as a key member of Eddie Jones' World Cup squad, until his spat with Brown.

The 32-year-old jumped to rugby in 2016 with Worcester in England, after a 152-game NRL career that included stints at the Wests Tigers, Brisbane Broncos and South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The Sunwolves have named him among 15 new players recruited for their final Super Rugby campaign.

Te'o was born in Auckland and attended St Paul's College - a school with a rich history of producing rugby league internationals, including Stacey Jones.
