Israel Folau's ongoing battle with Rugby Australia has intensified, with the former Wallaby now demanding AU$14 million in damages.

The cross-code star claims he could have captained his country, hence the increase in demands from $10 million to $14 million.

The Daily Telegraph reports Folau said the termination of his contract would cost him $4 million over the next two years, while he also stated he would have secured a multi-million-dollar deal overseas after the 2021 season.

Earlier this year, the former NRL winger was sacked for anti-gay comments he made on social media.

Folau also claims a Wallabies teammate warned former coach Michael Cheika and Rugby Australia chief executive Raelene Castle that his sacking would highly offend Polynesian Christian players and generate a divide in the team.

The Daily Telegraph reports Folau's amended statement also notes that he had wide support among his Wallabies teammates.

"During the hearing before the tribunal, Mr Folau revealed to the tribunal that at least 15 teammates and members of coaching staff had either provided him with messages of support and/or urged for his return to the playing field, and that he had been informed by his teammates and management that there would be no disharmony or impact on team cohesion, if he were to return to the game."

Folau had a recent attempt to return to rugby league blocked by the international decision-makers.
