5:45pm - Play has been abandoned for the day.

5:34pm -That will likely be all she wrote for the day

The rain comes with two balls left in the 100th over and the players leave the field.

100th over - Henry back into the attack, a misfield from Santner and Pope and Root scamper through for two.

99th over - A maiden from Wagner.

98th over - Just one off Southee's over.

97th over - One off the Wagner over.

96th over - One off the over .

95th over - WICKET

Crawley gets a little feather through to the keeper, good ball, good catch.

Crawley c Watling b Wagner 1

94th over - Southee to bowl, massive run out appeal, a direct hit from Kane Williamson but Crawley is safe and is off the mark.

93rd over - Wagner drags one down the leg side and Root flicks it fine for four.

That's the hundred for Root, an inside edge bounces over Watling and goes for four.

Another four for Root, lovely shot, cut into the ground and goes past point for a boundary.

13 off the over.

92nd over - WICKET

Stokes goes forward and the ball darts to the right, takes the edge of the bat and goes to first slip and Taylor takes a nice catch going forward.

Ben Stokes c Taylor b Southee 26

91st over - One off the Wagner over.

90th over - Southee to return, a switch of ends for him, a thick edge and Root moves to 95 with the boundary.

87th over - Neil Wagner to bowl now, maiden over.

86th over - Root works a straight ball into the leg side for a single.

85th over - Southee to bowl, driven well through the covers for four from Stokes, too full and wide from Southee.

Stokes cuts the last ball of the over and it flies over the head of point, four more.

84th over - Henry to continue, maiden over.

83rd over - Southee to bowl.

Just one off the over.

82nd over - Back underway after tea, the ball is one over old and it's in the hands of Matt Henry, three off the over, a nice flick from Stokes goes for two to end the over.

TEA: Another good session for England. They lost their centurion but have built a solid foundation for a big score here. Joins us for the resumption of play at 4pm, when Whakatane's finest, Luke Robinson, takes over the commentary role.

81st over - New ball taken in the final over before tea. Southee claims the honours. Just a double to Stokes, and that will do us.

79th over - Mitchell on the maney with line and length. Another maiden as we edge towards tea. One more over until the new ball is available.

77th over - Maiden over from Mitchell.

76th over - The umpires have called for a swap of the bails, after the third umpire had trouble see the whites ones them dislodged against Watling's shirt. White stumps and wooden bails now at each end. Cool story, eh bro?

74th over - And there it is, Burns' second test century. 208 balls and 15 boundaries. Looks like he has plenty more runs in him too. Bows to the crowd and soaks up some deserved applause.

OUT - Uh oh! I've spoken too soon. Burns attempts to sneak a second run to cover but Raval is up to the task, great throw over the stumps to Watling who whips off the bails. After around 74 looks, the third umpire finally shows the red light. What a way to go, Burns will be fuming.

67th over - Santner spins one out of the foot marks that beats Root all ends up. Sweeps confidently for a single.

66th over - Henry into the attack. Burns rocks back and pulls him to the boundary at midwicket. 150 partnership up.

64th over - Wicket goes begging! Latham at the stumps ready to exact what should've been a run out of Burns, only for Matt Henry to attempt to take the ball in front of the stumps and drop it clean. Huge missed opportunity.

63rd over - Root plays a lovely late square cut for four off Santner.

61st over - Santner gets Roots shuffling on his crease. Root sweeps the final ball for the lone run of the over.

60th over - Burns latches on to a rare short one from Southee and pulls it to the fence. Just the four off the over.

55th over - Santner to bowl - one from that over too.

54th over - We are back underway ! and we need a wicket, cmon lads - Southee to bowl, just one off the over, a Rory Burns flick into the leg side.

LUNCH - They added 103 runs in the first session, but they didn't lose any wickets which is key. The current partnership between Burns and Root is 118, but they still trail by 233 runs.

53rd over - A maiden over to end the session for England. A little shout at the end of the over for an LBW but the umpire doesn't raise the finger.

52nd over - And Joe Root completes his 50 with a single. He runs through with a little smile.

51st over - A quiet over which just sees one run scored to Joe Root with a shot down legside. It means England captain Root is one run away from a 50.

50th over - There's an appeal for the wicket of Joe Root as it looks like he's edged it to BJ Watling, and the umpire raises his finger, but Joe Root appeals it straight away and the decision was overturned. England now 141/2.

49th over - A good over from Santner ends in disappointment as Burns  Burns sweeps his delivery fine and away for four.

48th over - Rory Burns continues to chip away, as drives twice - first through the covers and then past mid off, and gets two on each occasion.

36th over - Rory Burns brings up his half century - his sixth of his career. The opener cntinues his good form with the bat. Root adds another single and it is time for drinks.

35th over - A single from the last ball of the over brings up the 75-run partnership and 100 runs for England in their innings. They still trail by 275.

34th over - Rory Burns ends the run-less spell with a single pushed to mid on. This partnership is 73 runs.

33rd over - A first maiden over for Daryl Mitchell.

32nd over - Better over by Wagner wtith six full-ish deliveries.

31st over - This partnership is doing well so far for England. The over ends with another four to Joe Root. Daryl Mitchell comes into the attack for the first time today.

Kia ora, good morning and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the second cricket test between the Blackcaps and England at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

England will start day three on 39/2 after bowling the Blackcaps out for 375, late on day two.

Play will start at 10:30am as rain affected play on day one. Officials are hopeful of playing 98 overs a day for the remaining three days.

The Blackcaps lead the two-match series 1-0 after crushing England by an innings and 65 runs in the first test in Mt Maunganui.

New Zealand have won five and drawn one of their last six tests at Seddon Park, while Ross Taylor has made five of his 18 test hundreds at Hamilton, and is 92 runs away from scoring 1000 at the venue.

Of course, this particular match-up has taken on greater significance this year - no so much in the test format - after the pulsating climax at the Cricket World Cup, where England pipped New Zealand on a countback of boundaries in the final.

Then, three weeks ago, the T20 series decided at Eden Park also went into extra time, with the tourists again prevailing in a 'super over'.

If the Blackcaps prevail in Hamilton, it will be their  100th test victory.
