MMA: Israel Adesanya fires shots at Jon Jones after drink-driving arrest

Kiwi UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was never going to miss the opportunity to fire a few shots in Jon Jones' direction, after his budding rival fell foul of the law yet again.

Jones faces multiple charges - including driving while intoxicated and negligent use of a firearm - after he was pulled over on the streets of Albuquerque, New Mexico on Friday (NZ time).

Jones and Adesanya have been trading jabs in interviews and social media for months, and Adesanya has been adamant that he'll eventually step up in weight to fight the long-time UFC light heavyweight champion once he takes care of business in his own division.

The incident is the latest in a lengthy list of indiscretions for the troubled superstar, who's considered one of MMA's all-time great fighters.

Predictably, 'The Last Stylebender' was quick to cash in at Jones' expense following the American's newest pitfall.

Last week, Jones posted a picture encouraging people to stay indoors in an effort to curb the coronavirus pandemic.

The irony of the statement, in light of Jones' joyride, wasn't lost on Adesanya who replied: "...and on the 7th day got arrested. I mean God Rested."

After his five-round war against Kelvin Gastelum in April for the interim middleweight title, Adesanya predicted Jones would soon be back in trouble with police, and provided fans a reminder of that.

Adesanya also questioned Jones' claims of being a man of faith.

Kick a man while he's down? Adesanya suggested he has no such qualms when it comes to Jones.

The UFC has issued a statement saying they're aware of Jones' arrest but there's no word yet on whether they'll strip him of his title.
