Former All Black Byron Kelleher is facing charges of assault and wilful damage resulting from a confrontation with his fiancee's ex-partner last year.

Kelleher had been drinking when he damaged the complainant's Auckland property and became involved in a minor physical altercation him, according to Stuff.

The 43-year-old - who played 57 tests for New Zealand at halfback - will reappear in Auckland district court on Friday.

The former Otago stalwart has recently returned from France, where he played out his post-NZ career with Toulouse and Stade Francais.

He was involved in a few alcohol-related incidents while in France, including two reported drink-driving infringements.

In March 2017, Kelleher was also found guilty of domestic violence, after attacking a woman he was with and damaging property.
