Pre-match chat: Scott Barrett returns for Crusaders against Reds

The Crusaders will welcome All Blacks Scott Barrett back into the fold for their showdown with the Reds in Christchurch on Friday.

Barrett is the lone change to the pack that beat the Highlanders a fortnight ago, with the lock fully recovered from the knee injury suffered against the Blues in round three.

In the backs, halfback Ereatara Enari earns his first start of the 2020 season.

Rest for Brayden Ennor and David Havili has forced a rejig of the backline, with George Bridge shifting to fullback and Leicester Faingaanuku promoted to a starting spot on the left wing.

Second-five Dallas McLeod will make his Super Rugby debut in the midfield alongside Jack Goodhue, who'll be making his 50th appearance for the defending champions.

All Blacks wing Sevu Reece will provide cover for the midfield off the bench, where he's made a handful of appearances for Waikato at national provincial level.

"He was beaming after he was told he was going to jump into 13 and cover that if required," head coach Scott Robertson said.

"A couple of weeks before the bye he jumped in there [at training] for this moment," Robertson said.

"Braydon [Ennor] can do it, a number of players can do it. So it gives us the flexibility you need in any squad.

Fijian wing Manasa Mataele will also make his long-awaited return to the field, having recovered from a serious knee injury that ended his 2019 Super Rugby campaign.

"He got a big cheer when we called his name, just because of the amount of work he's put in," Robertson added.

"It was pretty devastating. He was in incredible form when he did his knee . We know how hard he's worked. Now is his chance to show some impact."

The Queenslanders have just one win from their first four games, and will enter Friday's fixture off the back of a 33-23 loss to the Sharks at home.
