Former WWE star Shad Gaspard is feared dead, after he was reported missing during a family visit to Venice Beach in California.

Gaspard was with a group of swimmers, including his son, who were pulled into a rip current, but he was the only one rescuers couldn't locate.

Forbes reports Gaspard instructed lifeguards to save his son first, which they did, before another large wave crashed down.

Reports indicate that was the last time the former WWE tag-team champion was seen.

"We had one of our lifeguards go out to make a double rescue of a father and a son," notes Kenichi Haskett of the LA County Fire Department.

"The father, unfortunately, got pushed down by a wave as they were getting pulled out of the current. The lifeguard rescued and grabbed the boy, the son, and tried to grab the father as well.

"He ended up getting pushed down by a wave and we couldn't find him, and we immediately started with our rescue boats, called in additional lifeguards to search that location of his dad."

Gaspard, who turned 39 in January, last competed for WWE in 2010.

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department says it's making every effort to locate the former professional wrestler.
