Beauden Barrett launches Super Rugby Aotearoa season with rooftop drop kick

New Blues recruit Beauden Barrett has shown that fear is not a factor, pulling off a rooftop kicking show before the opening weekend of Super Rugby Aotearoa.

Coach Leon McDonald has pulled a selection shock, naming the All Black star in the No.15 jersey for Sunday's clash with the Hurricanes.

But Barrett showed why his tactical kicking from the back could be a key factor against his old outfit, showing off his skills in a promotional video to officially launch the season.

From the roof of Eden Park's Eastern Stand, a tentative Barrett tried to slot the ball through the posts on the hallowed turf below.

Initially, he was wayward, but he wouldn't be denied, strapping on a safety harness to give the stunt a more educated shot.

"If I get harnessed up and go a little bit further forward, at least I can wind into it," he said.

Now secure, Barrett cautiously walked a few steps from the ledge and nailed a sweet punt, because, you know, why not.
