NRL 2020: Clint Gutherson's golden point field-goal sees Eels beat Raiders

Parramatta Eels reclaimed their spot atop the NRL standings, when captain Clint Gutherson slotted a golden-point field goal to secure a 25-24 win over Canberra Raiders in Sydney.

Leading by 12 points in the final five minutes, the Eels looked set to wrap up the game in regulation, but a brace of tries to Kiwis international Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad levelled the scores and the contest went to extra time.

Both teams missed shots to win the match, before Gutherson landed the winner in the 87th minute.

The Eels trailled 12-8 at the break, but three tries in 15 minutes midway though the second half saw them take a 12 point lead, before the Raiders fought back.

The win came at the cost for the Eels, with livewire halfback Mitchell Moses set for a stint on the sidelines with a calf injury, coach Brad Arthur saying "he'll be out for a bit".

The Raiders also lost a key player, as fiery lock Corey Horsburgh limped off the field with a knee injury, after a tussle with Eels back-rower Ryan Matterson.

Horsburgh was visibly upset and the limited fans inside Bankwest Stadium booed the Raiders forward, so he responded by gesticulating at the spectators.

The loss was the Raiders' third of the season and coach Ricky Stuart wasn't pleased.

"We didn't deserve to be in that position," says Stuart. "It's amazing how they got back to that scoreline, but I'll never debate that they never give in.

"I've said that for years, you can never win a game of football in the first half, but you can lose them.

"We just keep making it very, very hard on ourselves by poor pieces of football and that was the case in the first half, especially in the first 20 minutes."
