Hello folks and welcome to Newshub's live commentary of the WBC elimination heavyweight fight between Dillian Whyte and Alexander Povetkin.

Whyte had already earned a future shot at WBC gold against the winner of Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder's trilogy fight, but he put that at risk against a very dangerous veteran.

Povetkin's lost only twice in 38 fights - both against the two best heavyweights of the last decade - Vladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua.

The fight will take place from the Matchroom Fight Camp in Brentwood - home of promoter Eddie Hearn in his version of UFC's Fight Island.

Whyte is looking to extend his five-year, 11-fight win streak, which included a decision win over Kiwi slugger Joseph Parker in 2018.

Povetkin rebounded from his 2018 stoppage loss at the hands of Joshua with a dominant decision win over Hughie Fury, but fought to a split draw against highly-rated American boxer Michael Hunter.
