Bledisloe Cup: All Blacks survive late Australian surge to take opening test at Eden Park

The All Blacks have limped to an opening Bledisloe Cup test win against Australia at Auckland's Eden Park.

Both sides scored four tries apiece, with New Zealand securing a 33-25 win on Aaron Smith's 100th test for his country.

With the All Blacks seemingly headed to a dominant victory late in the second half, Australia scored three straight tries to build momentum heading into next weekend's second test at the same venue.

Damian McKenzie's 64th-minute try had the All Blacks up 33-8, but the Wallabies showed resolve, producing their best rugby of the match to score the last 17 points of the match.

If first-five Noah Lolesio had a better night with the boot, the result could have been much different, with the Brumbies star landing just two goals from seven attempts.

Three Richie Mo'unga penalties gave the All Blacks a 9-0 first half, before Australia exploded into action.

Lolesio landed a 32nd-minute penalty, before combining with winger Andrew Kellaway to pull the Wallabies back into the test.

But a penalty against Michael Hooper from the kickoff proved costly, with captain Sam Whitelock turning down a potential three points to push for a try.

Sevu Reece scored moments later from the back of a ruck and the All Blacks had a comfortable 16-8 halftime lead.

Lolesio missed an early second-half penalty attempt, before Mo'unga capitalised on a wayward pass from Hunter Paisami, plucking his pass out of midair to race away and score, breaking the game open.

Two tries in six minutes put the result beyond Australia, with David Havili and McKenzie crossing the line, but the Wallabies will take a lot out of their last 10 minutes.

Tom Banks scored two tries in seven minutes and replacement hooker Jordan Uelese capped off the night with the Walllabies' fourth try.

Lolesio left 15 points out on the park with his wayward goalkicking, while Richie Mo'unga landed five from seven.

All Blacks 33 (Sevu Reece, Richie Mo'unga, David Havili, Damien McKenzie tries, Mo'unga 2 con, 3 pens) Australia 25 (Andrew Kellaway, Tom Banks 2 tries, Noah Lolesio con, pen)
