Rugby: Bledisloe bloodbath - All Blacks demolish Australia in record-breaking second test victory

The Bledisloe Cup is staying in New Zealand for a 19th-straight year, after the All Blacks dismantled Australia 57-22 in the second test at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday.

The scoreline is the All Blacks' biggest against Australia, as the hosts ran in eight tries to the Wallabies' three to open their Rugby Championshp campaign in ideal fashion.

The 57 points scored betters the 54-34 victory over Australia from Sydney in 2017.

Holding a slim 21-15 lead at the half after a tightly contested tussle, the hosts put the foot down with a 36-7 onslaught in the second stanza, emphatically erasing any lingering memories of their slow finish in the first test.

Hooker Codie Taylor bagged two tries, while Rieko Ioane, Brodie Retallick, Ardie Savea, Sevu Reece, Will Jordan and David Havili also crossed, as the hosts earned a Rugby Championship bonus point and secured a 22nd successive victory over the Wallabies at Eden Park in a winning streak stretching back to 1986.

Australia, who had needed a win to keep the annual three-match Bledisloe Cup series alive after their 33-25 defeat last week, scored three tries through some fine attacking rugby but were punished ruthlessly for their errors.

Playing in front of a relatively sparse crowd - with slightly over 25,000 in attendance on a rainy night in Auckland - the All Blacks opened the scoring early courtesy of a Rieko Ioane intercept try, only for the Australians to strike back immediately with a well constructed try to rookie wing Andrew Kellaway.

Fifteen minutes later, Brodie Retallick finished off a sweeping 80m movement under the crossbar, closely followed by Taylor helping power Savea over from close range.

The Wallabies were rewarded for a sustained period of pressure towards the end of the half, which resulted in halfback Tate McDermott crossing under the black dot, as the hooter sounded.

After Savea was binned for the All Blacks' repeated tryline infringements just minutes into the half, halfback Aaron Smith kicked off the NZ onslaught, sniping down a narrow blindside to send the supporting Taylor over the line.

Damian McKenzie then stepped up to clatter a monstrous 57m penalty, which sparked a game-changing period of dominance for the All Blacks.

Reece pinched New Zealand's third intercept try of the series, before Smith sent Taylor over yet again with a precision wide pass.

Five minutes later, Savea broke clear from a lovely Dalton Papalii offload, linking with Will Jordan, who crossed in the corner.

The Australians salvaged another try through Kellaway, who went in unmarked from a handy Tom Banks wide ball, only for Havili to scamper over from broken play with time expired to rub more salt in their wounds.

The All Blacks will now travel to Perth for the third and final Bledisloe Cup test on August 28, where they could potentially play out the remainder of their Rugby Championship schedule.

New Zealand 57 (Taylor 2, Havili, Jordan, Reece, Savea, R. Ioane, Retallick tries, Mo'unga 5 cons, McKenzie pen) Australia 22 (Kellaway 2, McDermott, Lolesio pen, 2 cons)
