Daryl Mitchell was blazing with the bat ... hitting three sixes on his way to 49, while Kane Williamson kept his cool to anchor the innings.

Big win for New Zealand who will make the semi-finals if they win their remaining three games.

Wrap - Well pretty sure every Kiwi on the planet would take that. Wicket is slow and it appears hard for batters to time the ball. Just four boundaries from the last 13 overs reflects that. Back in 10.

Kia ora, good morning and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of this Twenty20 World Cup encounter between the Blackcaps and India in Dubai.

Both sides enter Monday morning's group two match needing victory, having both been defeated by Pakistan in their respective tournament openers.

The Blackcaps were beaten by five wickets in Sharjah last week, while India were handed a 10 wicket mauling by their arch rivals at this same venue.

With just the two top teams from each pool advancing to the semi-finals, defeat for either side should all but end any chance of progression - unless Pakistan were to falter against minnows Scotland or Namibia.

For the Blackcaps, opening batter Martin Guptill looks to have overcome a toe injury that saw him ruled out of fielding against Pakistan, while fast bowler Adam Milne could work his way into the XI after replacing the injured Lockie Ferguson.

TAB odds: New Zealand $2.85, India $1.38

Teams (predicted):

Blackcaps: 1-Martin Guptill, 2-Daryl Mitchell, 3-Kane Williamson (c), 4-Devon Conway (wk), 5-Glenn Phillips, 6-Jimmy Neesham, 7-Mitchell Santner, 8-Tim Southee, 9-Adam Milne, 10-Ish Sodhi, 11-Trent Boult.

India: 1-KL Rahul, 2-Rohit Sharma, 3-Virat Kohli (c), 4-Suryakumar Yadav, 5-Rishabh Pant (wk), 6-Hardik Pandya, 7-Ravindra Jadeja, 8-Shardul Thakur, 9-Mohammed Shami, 10-Varun Chakravarthy, 11-Jasprit Bumrah.

Blackcaps approaching must-win territory for India T20 World Cup showdown

After a first-up Twenty20 World Cup defeat to Pakistan, the Blackcaps are now effectively in must-win territory when they line up against India on Monday morning (NZ time).

Currently sitting fourth in group two, the Blackcaps could be forced to win all four of their remaining matches if they're to have a hope of reaching the tournament semi-finals, with the top two teams in each group advancing.

Pakistan's record of three wins from their first three games will almost certainly see them advance as either the first or second from the group, leaving one of the Blackcaps or India on the plane home early.

But after the nature of their first defeat, losing to Pakistan by five wickets in Sharjah, the Blackcaps are confident that they can rectify their mistakes in time for the Dubai meeting against India.

"I think there's a lot of [lessons] to take from the first game," bowler Tim Southee says.

"We weren't far off against a quality Pakistan side, but we've got to park that and look forward. It's such a short tournament and there's no easy games.

"It's about focus shifting forward to India on Monday."

If there's any solace to take for the Blackcaps though, it's that India are in the exact same boat.

Entering the UAE as the pre-tournament favourites, Virat Kohli's India were stunned in their opening match, as Pakistan inflicted a 10-wicket defeat in both teams' opening game.

That defeat will only spur India on though, with Southee and the Blackcaps anticipating another thrilling clash against Kohli and his charges.

"They're a quality side, they've shown that for many years," Southee adds.

"For them as well, coming off a loss, they'll be wanting to win as well.

"It should be a great contest against two very good sides."

India have the better recent record over the Blackcaps in Twenty20 cricket, winning 5-0 in the two sides' last series - all the way back at the start of 2020.
