Basketball: Kiwi Steven Adams just misses double-double as Memphis Grizzlies' winning run halted by Portland Trailblazers

Kiwi centre Steven Adams just missed a double-double as his Memphis Grizzlies slipped to defeat against Damian Lillard and the Portland Trailblazers in NBA action on Monday.

The Kiwi played a season-high 36 minutes in the 105-100 loss, scoring 13 points with nine rebounds and five assists as Memphis fell to just their second defeat in 12 games, to leave them fourth in the Western Conference.

The Grizzlies led at the end of each of the first three quarters in a tight contest, but Portland won the final frame 28-20 to secure victory off the back of 32 points from star guard Lillard.

Norman Powell added 28 points for the Trail Blazers who were helped by a poor night from Grizzlies' sharpshooters, who managed just nine from 34 attempts from beyond the three-point arc.

Guard Dillon Brooks scored 37 points shooting at 50 percent from the field, with Jaren Jackson Jnr and Kyle Anderson adding 11 each for a side missing star player Ja Morant, who is expected back later this week against the Oklahoma City Thunder after recovering from a left knee sprain.
