Blackcaps spin bowler Ajaz Patel has created history, dismissing the entire Indian batting order in the first innings of the second test at Mumbai.
Patel's figures of 10/119 surpass Sir Richard Hadlee for the best by a New Zealand bowler in tests, making him only the third player to achieve the clean sweep.
Only Englishman Jim Laker (10/53 v Australia in 1956) and Indian Anil Kumble (10/74 v Pakistan in 1999) have captured 10 wickets in a test innings previous. Both were also spin bowlers.
Hadlee set the standard for Kiwi cricketers in 1985, when he took 9/52 at Brisbane. The wicket he missed out on was fast bowler Geoff Lawson, bowled Vaughan Brown, caught Hadlee.
Bowling in his hometown, Patel began the second day with four wickets already up his sleeve and struck twice in his first over of the morning, trapping wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha leg before wicket and bowling Ravi Ashwin for a golden duck with the very next delivery.
Axar Patel defended the hat-trick ball and put on 67 runs with centurion Mayank Agarwal, before the opening batter became victim No.7, caught behind by wicketkeeper Tom Blundell for 150.
Axar Patel was next leave, lbw for 52, before tailenders Jayant Yadav and Mohammed Siraj departed in identical fashion, caught by Blackcaps all-rounder Rachin Ravindra to wrap up the innings.
Kumble was quick to welcome Patel to the club, tweeting: "Well bowled! A special effort to achieve it on Day1 & 2 of a test match."
