Rugby: All Blacks wing Caleb Clarke not eyeing switch to NRL, on brink of new deal with NZ Rugby

Ice-cold water has been quickly poured over reports from across the Tasman that star Blues wing Caleb Clarke has his sights set on a switch to rugby league.

On Tuesday, Australia's Channel Nine claimed the five-test All Black had "put his feelers out" for a shock code switch to join the NRL.

But a source close to Clarke tells Newshub there's "not even a one percent chance" the 22-year-old will be turning his back on rugby.

In fact, Clarke is on the verge of signing a multi-year extension with the Blues and NZ Rugby.

It's understood the new contract will also include an All Blacks clause, absent from his current deal - which expires at the end of this season - due to his decision to forego international rugby last year to chase an Olympics berth with All Blacks Sevens.

Clarke was named as a traveling reserve but never took the field for the silver-medal winning squad at Tokyo.

In 2020, Clarke - son of former All Black Eroni Clarke - took the international scene by storm with an outstanding rookie campaign in the black jersey.

The blockbusting back has impressed through the early stages of Super Rugby Pacific, as he stakes his claim for a return to the All Blacks fold this year.
