Ninth minute - On the last tackle, Schneider grubbers to the goal area, but it's too heavy and Warriors have seven tackles.

Seventh minute - Raiders shift the ball right, but Asi rushes out of the defensive line and nails Schneider, who spills the ball. Tremendous from the new guy!

Sixth minute - Sironen has twisted his ankle in a tackle from Wighton, who was still lying on the ground. Katoa tries to offload and Walsh has no chance of catching that - another dumbe error in their own territory.

Raiders kick off and Afoa runs off the back fence... but Katoa spills the ball and Canberra are on attack again.

30th minute - Walsh kicks off and again flirts with the deadball line. Elliott gets another offload in midfielder and Wighton puts a high kick acrossfield.

Rapana drops the ball, amid some confusion whether it went forward or backward. Ref says forward.

27th minute - TRY to Young

Metres from the Warriors line, Raiders shift left and Warriors are in immediately trouble with numbers, as Elliott offloads and Young finds a yawning gap in the defence.

26th minute - Fonua-Blake runs the kickoff back and immediately spills the ball, giving Canberra ideal field position to start their set.

24th minute - TRY to Pompey

Walsh converts from wide out, CAN 8-6

22nd minute - Tapine loses the ball on halfway, but Tevaga has stripped it and Raiders have six more tackles.

20th minute - Warriors have good field position, as Afoa throws himself at the defensive line, but as the ball shifts right, there are too many Warriors and Johnson throws a pass across three of them into touch.

19th minute - Schneider grubbers towards the Warriors line, but Asi is there to defuse the threat. Walsh is dumped in a tackle that went past the horizontal and Wighton is put on report.

18th minute - Walsh tries an extra pass on halfway and the pass is deflected back by a retreating Raiders player, so another turnover to the Warriors.

17th minute - Walsh kicks off and Papalii runs it off his line. Warriors keep Raiders in their own half and Schneider kicks deep to Walsh.

16th minute - Schneider lines up a shot at goal from in front and slots it, CAN 8-0

14th minute - Papalii crosses halfway in the second tackle. Elliott splits the defence from dummy half, but Asi and Walsh bring him down.

Warriors are penalised for taking Rapana off the ball - Lodge has his second penalty in as many minutes.

13th minute - Warriors not making much headway on this set and Johnson kicks from his own 40. Savage runs it back and has a penalty for a high tackle.

12th minute - Harawira-Naera goes close and then Rapana gets caught on the last, so Warriors let off the hook.

11th minute - Fonua-Blake loses the ball in the play-the-ball and uses his captain's challenge, but replays show he simply placed the ball on Tapine's foot, so a loose carry from the skipper.

Raiders earn a penalty in front of the posts, after Berry dislodges the ball in a tackle, but they choose to tap and run.

10th minute - Wighton kicks toward Arthars, who gathers and beats a few tackles, before earning a penalty. Johnson kicks to halfway.

Ninth minute - Warriors kick off and Tapine reaches halfway on the fourth  tackle.

Seventh minute - TRY to Timoko

Raiders are 10 metres out and shift left, where Wighton puts the young Kiwi centre into space, with a man overlap. Worrying signs from the Warriors already.

Schneider bends his conversion between the posts, CAN 6-0

Sixth minute - Raiders earn a clearing penalty, but Wighton's kick only reaches the 30. Raiders get a set restart, which will help them.

Fifth minute - Johnson puts up a high kick, but Rapana is all alone underneath it.

Fourth minute - Schneider puts up a high kick and Arthars leaps high to claim it. Warriors earn the first penalty of the game.

Third minute - Asi kicks long on the last tackled and Savage almost busts the defensive line.

Second minute - After his first touch of the ball, Asi is already being examined by medics, but he's OK.

Raiders are already deep into Warriors territory, Wighton runs a challening line and then puts up a high kick that Rapana gathers, then loses.

First minute - Raiders kick off and it would have gone into touch, if Sironen hadn't saved it. Hope that's not an omen...

Egan darts over halfway from dummy half and promptly gives the ball away. Ref's call is knock-on Raiders, but they've challenged already and they win it.

Nathan Brown concedes NZ Warriors players gave up during record-breaking defeat to Melbourne Storm

By Alex Powell

NZ Warriors coach Nathan Brown concedes some of his players simply gave up in Monday's record-breaking 70-10 loss to Melbourne Storm.

Facing off in the traditional Anzac Day clash, the Warriors imploded in the second half, conceding 54 unanswered points, after trailing by only six at halftime.

The 60-point margin is the largest in the Warriors history, more than the 62-6 defeat against Penrith Panthers in 2013.

The second half compounded the nature and the reality of the defeat for the Warriors, conceding more than a point a minute in the last 40. From the 50th minute to full time, the Storm ran in nine tries without any threat of reply from a shellshocked Warriors outfit.

Fronting media immediately after the game, coach Brown didn't shirk responsibility for the defeat or mince his words, admitting some of his players stopped trying once the going got tough.

"Some people did, I've got no doubt at all" a stern Brown said. "I've been in this game a long time, and it's disappointing to actually sit here and say that.

"Some people looked for the easiest way out they could and it's sad. That's not a reflection of all the players - we had some players that worked extremely hard and put themselves on the line, but when you're playing against a team that's that good and you don't have the ball, the best players can look not good.

"That's what the Storm can do to you. I don't know how many tackles we had the ball for in the second half, but you could put many players out there.

"Sometimes, the fatigue causes people to make some bad decisions, but we had some people that made some bad decisions, not because of fatigue, and that's what's disappointing.

The Warriors won't have to wait long to make amends for the defeat, with a short turnaround before their next fixture against Canberra Raiders in Redcliffe on Saturday, just four days away.

While the brief respite won't  be ideal for a team reeling from a record defeat, Brown sees his side's clash against the Raiders as the perfect opportunity to bounce back straight away.

"We'll get up tomorrow," he added. "Obviously, we'll have a chat when we get back to Brisbane and then we've got a short turnaround.

"The positive thing is we are playing in four days' time, we don't have to wait eight, nine days to play. We've got a short turnaround and we'll get back into it."

NRL regulations mean Brown will have to name his matchday squad to face the Raiders on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after Monday's loss.

But even after hitting out at the attitude of some of his stars, the Warriors coach isn't giving anything away on how the loss will affect his plans for next Saturday.

The only players guaranteed to not feature again are Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, who suffered a concussion, and Josh Curran, after a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury to his knee. Kodi Nikorima could also be forced out, after a positive COVID-19 test, while forward Aaron Pene faces a judiciary hearing for head contact.

"I'm not going to sit here and make any statements about doing certain things now to players," said Brown. "I'm pretty clear about what I think happened and what I know happened.

"There's going to be some strong messages to certain individuals. There's no doubt about that, you can't hide from that.

"What we do off the back of it, you'll just have to wait and see."
