Super Rugby Pacific: Rival captains Scott, Beauden Barrett exchange jibes before Blues-Crusaders final

In another family milestone, brothers Scott and Beauden Barrett will face off as rival captains for the first time, when the Crusaders take on the Blues in Saturday's Super Rugby Pacific final at Auckland's Eden Park.

The siblings - along with younger bro Jordie - have enjoyed many landmark occasions throughout their respective careers, as domestic rivals and international teammates with the All Blacks, but the showdown between their respective Super Rugby sides brings an extra twist to their relationship.

As the pair squared off at Friday's traditional captain's photo opportunity, they revealed the family custom that will extend into this weekend - even with the backdrop of this winner-take-all fixture.

"I'll offer to cook him dinner tonight and return the favour he showed me in Christchurch a few weeks ago," quipped Beauden. "I'll extend the invite later on today."

Grinned Scott: "My spag bol didn't produce the goods last time."

"That's the plan," admits Beauden. "Get him over for dinner and butcher it."

Earlier this season, the Aucklanders broke an 18-year drought against their archrivals at Christchurch, greatly assisted by Scott Barrett's red card for a high tackle on Blues prop Alex Hodgman.

Beauden Barrett has been promoted to the Blues captaincy in the absence of flanker Dalton Papalii, who may yet return from injury to his team's gameday squad for the final, pending fitness tests.
