Rugby Championship: All Blacks move on from Ian Foster uncertainty, begin build-up for clash against table-topping Argentina

With the speculation surrounding his future now subsided, All Blacks coach Ian Foster is adamant it's strictly business as usual, and doesn't see this week as a fresh start.

The side have gathered in Christchurch to begin preparations for their Rugby Championship clash with Argentina, free of the growing noise and conjecture around Foster's future, as they look to move on from a trying period.

The All Blacks have carried a heavy burden into their past few test matches. But while their Ellis Park revival spared Ian Foster his job, he's not about to dwell on the recent toll.

"[It's] just another test," Foster said.

A test that will have far less riding on it than their previous few.

The All Blacks Ellis Park win might've cleared up the picture for Foster, but he's no stranger to the scrutiny that will continue to follow this team.

"It comes in different forms and different shapes," he added. "Sometimes it's geared at people, sometimes it's geared at performance.

"But you've got to keep embracing that."

Fletcher Newell joined the All Blacks environment when the noise was at its loudest in South Africa.

But his, and the rest of the team's, focus is solely on themselves as they look to continue improving against Argentina.

"A goal for us was to block out the noise and focus purely on us," Newell said. "I think that hasn't changed coming to Christchurch."

Newell remains with the squad, as several key All Blacks continue their rehab from injuries.

Jack Goodhue's future involvement this season is in doubt. He now requires knee surgery, while the news is better for Brodie Retallick after fracturing his jaw in the loss to Ireland in Wellington.

"Brodie's ahead of schedule," said Foster. "He's looking like he's into contact [training] this week."

Welcome relief as the All Blacks look to build on their success in Johannesburg.

"One win doesn't mean a lot, we want to keep growing and keep climbing through this year."

Ian Foster hopes the All Blacks can do that - with a little less scrutiny.
