All Whites coach Danny Hay has named a near full-strength side for this month's two international friendlies against Australia.

Despite missing Ryan Thomas, Sarpreet Singh, Marco Rojas, Clayton Lewis, Niko Kirwan and Francis de Vries, the All Whites' 24-strong squad contains 16 players from the FIFA Intercontinental play-off loss to Costa Rica, and two new faces.

Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Alex Paulsen, 20, is given his first call-up after impressing in place of the injured Oli Sail in last season's A-League campaign.

US-based Kyle Adams, 25, is also called up to the All Whites for the first time, after a bright start to the season with San Diego Loyal in the American USL Championship.

The squad also sees the return of fullback Deklan Wynne, who hasn't played for New Zealand since 2017, under previous manager Anthony Hudson, after the injury to de Vries.

Kirwan, also injured, is replaced in the squad by Central Coast Mariners right back Storm Roux, who hasn't played for the All Whites since 2019.

"The players are absolutely buzzing for this," said Hay. "It has been so long since we played at home.

"The majority of the squad have never represented the All Whites in New Zealand so this is going to be a proud moment for everyone.

"We are all still gutted about the intercontinental play-off result and missing out on the FIFA World Cup, but these games, with Australia qualified, gives us the perfect opportunity to prove we belong at this level."

The All Whites face the Socceroos on September 22 at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium, and again at Auckland's Eden Park on September 25.

All Whites squad: Kyle Adams, Joe Bell, Michael Boxall, Liberato Cacace, Andre de Jong, Matt Garbett, Alex Grieve, Cam Howieson, Dane Ingham, Elijah Just, Callum McCowatt, Ben Old, Alex Paulsen, Tim Payne, Nando Pijnaker, Winston Reid, Storm Roux, Oli Sail, Marko Stamenic, Bill Tuiloma, Ben Waine, Chris Wood, Michael Woud, Deklan Wynne
