Golf: Stunning final round fires Lydia Ko to victory at LPGA's BMW Ladies Championship

Kiwi Lydia Ko has produced an almost perfect final round to take victory in the LPGA's BMW Ladies Championship at Wonju, South Korea.

Beginning the day one shot behind the leader - Atthaya Thitikul of Thailand - at 14-under, Ko made eight birdies to take her second victory of the year and first since the Gainbridge LPGA event in January.

Ko's final round of 65 saw her finish at 21-under for the tournament, four shots clear of American Andrea Lee in second.

In a blistering start to her final round, Ko made two birdies on her first four holes, as Thitikul dropped down the leaderboard with three bogeys on her front nine.

Ko dropped a shot of her own on the seventh, but immediately made up for it on the eighth with her third birdie, as part of a two-under front nine that moved her to 16-under and the outright lead.

Two more birdies to start the back nine took Ko to 18-under and a three-shot lead, even as South Korea's Hye-Jin Choi closed the gap with successive birdies of her own on the 14th and 15th, and Lilia Vu of USA also moved into contention at 16-under.

Ko added her sixth birdie of the round on the 15th and then her seventh on the 16th, with a spectacular long-range effort to move to 20-under with two holes to play.

When Choi dropped a shot on the 17th, victory was all but sealed for the Kiwi.

Another birdie on the 17th gave Ko a five-shot lead going to the last hole, where par completed the win, despite a nervy approach.

The victory is Ko's 18th across her career and aside from her two wins this year, the Kiwi also has a further nine top-five finishes and two more top-10 placings.
