NZ 167/7 - Phillips 104
Sri Lanka 102 all out - Shanaka 35; Boult 4/13

12:28am

That's a huge boost for New Zealand's chances of reaching the last four.

A 65-run win solidifies the Blackcaps as the leaders of Pool 1 of the Super 12s, meaning a win over England or Ireland in their last two games should see them through.

Glenn Phillips takes the accolades as the hero, but the pair of Southee and Boult led a dominant display from the bowlers, not even allowing Sri Lanka to get close.

That's all from us tonight, so thank you for joining us - and we'll be back on Tuesday as the Blackcaps face England!

12:25am - NEW ZEALAND WIN BY 65 RUNS

Kia ora, good evening, and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of this Twenty20 World Cup clash between New Zealand and Sri Lanka from the Sydney Cricket Ground.

After rain has taken hold of this World Cup group so far, New Zealand still sit top of their table - courtesy of that huge win over Australia first up, even if Wednesday's clash against Afghanistan was rained off.

The Blackcaps will weigh up changes to that side that defeated Australia, with Daryl Mitchell back in contention after a broken finger sidelined him for the past few weeks. Mitchell would likely take the spot of Mark Chapman in the XI.

Meanwhile, Adam Milne could also come into the side in place of Lockie Ferguson, as a means of rotating the two fast bowlers.

Sri Lanka meanwhile will rate themselves as a good chance to pick up their second win of the tournament, after opening their account in style against Ireland.

As reigning Asian champions, Sri Lanka can cause a hiccup for the likes of the Blackcaps and England, despite being hammered by Australia earlier this week.

Keep an eye out for legspinner Wanindu Hasaranga with the ball, who's troubled some of the world's best for both Sri Lanka and playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

With the bat, the opening pair of Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka will shoulder most of the responsibility for Sri Lanka, so don't be surprised if Trent Boult and Tim Southee go hard at them early.

TAB odds: New Zealand $1.31, Sri Lanka $3.20
