Sam Cane and Brad Weber will again split the Chiefs' leadership roles, named as co-captains for the 2023 Super Rugby Pacific season.

Both Chiefs centurions within Super Rugby, coach Clayton McMillan had no hesitation in continuing with the pair as his skippers.

"Collectively they have a great feel for where we are at in games and the shared workload ensures they provide a balanced, reliable and calm approach to our on-field leadership," said McMillan.

Having co-captains will leave the Chiefs with flexibility in their leadership, with Cane, in particular, to be subject to All Blacks rest orders over the coming season.

"I love this team and I take nothing for granted," said Cane. "I have had a great relationship with Brad over the years and we bounce off each other in this role."

"I feel really honoured to be asked to lead our group alongside my good mate Sam again this season," added Weber.

"We have a great group of players and coaches that has the belief and is ready to take the next step and win a championship this season."

The Chiefs begin Super Rugby Pacific with a daunting ask, travelling to Christchurch to face the reigning champion Crusaders at Orangetheory Stadium on February 24.
