Former Blues, Tasman halfback Billy Guyton dies, aged 33

Former Blues, Hurricanes and Crusaders halfback Billy Guyton has died, aged 33.

Guyton's death was confirmed on social media by Tasman Mako, the team he made 52 appearances at provincial level from 2013 to 2017.

Recently, Guyton had been working as an assistant coach with Tasman's Farah Palmer Cup side.

"Billy was a much-loved member of our whole Tasman Rugby Union team and had a positive impact on those he played alongside and coached," the Mako posted on Facebook. 

"Billy has been a major contributor to the development of women's rugby across our Tasman region.

"Our condolences and aroha are extended to Billy's whanau, friends and colleagues during this sad time.''

In Super Rugby, Guyton made 26 appearances in four seasons spent across the Hurricanes, Crusaders and Blues - for whom he played 24 games.

Guyton was also capped once for the Māori All Blacks, coming in a 2016 tour match against Munster in Limerick.
