Golf: Blackcaps legend Martin Guptill schools challengers in Aotearoa Invitational celebrity longdrive competition

Former Blackcap Martin Guptill has dominated the field at the Aotearoa Invitational longdrive competition.

He was one of several high-profile athletes teeing it up at the annual golf day, raising money for the 'I Am Hope' charity.

Guptill was crowned 'king of the longdrive' with a 316-metre bomb.

"I don't even think it was that straight, to be honest," he told Newshub. "I'll take the numbers though.

"As long as I beat Nathan McCullum and Finn Allen, it's a good day."

Former NZ teammate McCullum was an early pacesetter in the contest...

"He was never going to hold up though," said Guptill. "There were some young guys behind him."

McCullum is not surprised.

"I've seen some big drives from him, playing with him on courses overseas," he said. "He smokes it."

Auckland Aces teammate Allen has replaced Guptill at the top of the Blackcaps T20 batting order, but still has some way to go before matching him on the fairways.

"He was a bit chirpy beforehand and couldn't even make 280," grinned Guptill.
