Some customers of ASB Bank were unable to log in to their accounts after an outage hit the bank this afternoon.

The first outages were reported just after 2pm with customers taking to social media to raise the issue.

"Hey ASB Bank, is there a reason why your banking app is down? Lots of people saying they can't access it and it comes up with an internal error," one customer wrote.

The bank acknowledged FastNet Classic and ASB Mobile were down for some customers.

"Sorry everyone, some customers may find online banking unavailable at the moment. Our team are working on this urgently," the bank wrote on Twitter.

Customers posted their unhappiness on the company's social media platforms.

"So your online system wastes our time and then you hang up on us twice when trying to call and transfer money due to your system not being fit for purpose," one wrote.

"This is why we look to the cryptocurrency exchange," wrote another.

Shortly before 4pm the bank posted on Facebook the outage had been resolved.

"We have identified the cause of the earlier outage and can confirm usage of credit cards through digital channels has been restored. Thanks again for your patience," it posted.

ASB have been contacted by Newshub for comment.
