With the latest Galaxy devices just launched and new iPhones about to be announced, Oppo is determined Samsung and Apple don't have it all their own way in Aotearoa.

The Chinese tech giant has announced its Reno8 phones will go on sale here from September 12, starting at NZ$999.

At the launch event in Paris, a new Oppo Pad Air tablet was also announced, although it is not known if it will be sold in New Zealand yet.

Oppo is the third most popular mobile phone brand in Aotearoa and earlier this year it was named Consumer New Zealand's Top Brand in the mobile phone category for the third year running.

Since the Reno series was first launched in 2018, around 80 million have been sold worldwide.

The new phone features dual Sony sensors, including a 32MP selfie camera sensor designed to enable users to capture clearer selfies in low light and a 50MP sensor in the rear to offer near flagship-level camera performance.

Oppo also offers what it calls the "longest smartphone battery lifespan on the market", with the Reno8 5G promising to keep up to 80 percent of its capacity after 1600 full charges.

That's around twice the industry standard, according to the company.

Paired with the 80W Supervooc charger, the 4500mAh battery will charge to 50 percent in around 10 minutes, with a full rejuicing taking around 30 minutes.

The mid-range phone will be available in two colours - Shimmer Gold and Shimmer Black - and boasts a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen with 90Hz refresh rates and a peak 800 nits of brightness.

While Oppo's flagship phone, the Find X5 Pro, has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip on board, the Reno8 features MediaTek's Dimensity 1300 System on a Chip (SoC).

Oppo's Enco X2 wireless earbuds, currently available for sale in New Zealand in the standard white colour, also get an update, with the new black colour going on sale here on October 1. They will cost $349.
