If you've looked into a Parisian getaway after watching Emily in Paris, booked a flight to Hawaii or Sicily because of The White Lotus or planned a trip to somewhere in Aotearoa based on The Rings of Power - you're not alone.

According to new research, 61 percent of New Zealanders have considered a trip to a destination after seeing it in a streamed show, while 21 percent have gone ahead and booked that trip.

One in five Kiwis also said the influence of streaming services on their travel plans has increased in the last 12 months, according to the study released today by the Expedia Group.

The research analysed customers' behaviour across both Expedia and Bookabach to establish travel trends as we approach 2023.

It was conducted among 24,000 adults across 17 countries who are planning domestic or international travel in the next 36 months - including 1000 from New Zealand.

Kiwi respondents said shows and movies set in beach destinations were of most interest (47 percent), with Hawaii of the most interest based on the influence of streaming services, followed by New York, Paris and Italy.

Other findings in the research include New Zealanders placing a high value on the cooking facilities of Bookabach properties with an outdoor kitchen, air fryer and fancy coffee machine said to be the most desired features.

The Expedia Group released the study's findings in the report 'The No-Normal: Unexpected Travel Trends in 2023'.
