Relations between Prince Charles and his sons William and Harry are stretched almost to breaking point, according to reports.

The Prince of Wales finds his sons' public expressions of emotion embarrassing, reports the Daily Beast, citing a palace source.

In the documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex open up about their relationship with their late mother Princess Diana.

For their part, the young dukes still resent how their father handled matters around the death of their mother, according to the Daily Beast.

Prince Charles is said to see his sons only on public occasions and official business.

Nevertheless, Prince Charles stepped in for his daughter-in-law, Meghan Markle, by walking her down the aisle when she married Prince Harry in May.

The Duchess of Sussex has a strained relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, who didn't attend the wedding after it was reported he had staged photographs for a paparazzi photographer.

He told TMZ he would not be attending the wedding after suffering a heart attack.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be making their way to Aotearoa later this year.
