'Scary' and 'difficult' time for young men in US - Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump says it's a 'scary' and 'difficult' time for young men in the US as controversy continues over Brett Kavanaugh's alleged sexual assaults.

As his Supreme Court nominee fights allegations he assaulted Christine Blasey Ford as a high school student, Mr Trump issued a warning.

"Well, I'd say that it's a very scary time for young men in America when you can be guilty of something you may not be guilty of. This is a very difficult time," Mr Trump told reporters at the White House on Tuesday (local time).

"You could be somebody who was perfect your entire life and somebody could accuse you of something. Doesn't necessarily have to be a woman, as everybody says, but somebody could accuse you of something and you're automatically guilty.

"But in this realm, you're truly guilty until proven innocent. That's one of the very very bad things that's taking place right now."

Moments later, the President was asked if he had a message for young women.

"Women are doing great," Mr Trump replied, before walking away.

So far, three women have accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault and misconduct. He has blamed Democrats - who have opposed his nomination from the outset - for a "calculated and orchestrated political hit".

Mr Trump himself has been accused by more than a dozen women of unwanted sexual advances, harassment or groping. He denies their claims.
