UK cyclist narrowly misses getting hit by falling tree

A cyclist has narrowly avoided serious injuries or death after they managed to slip underneath a falling tree trunk.

Video posted to Facebook by cycling apparel brand Bear Valley shows the London incident. It begins with two arborists working on the tree as traffic drives past.

Two cyclists approach and one gets past without any problems, but suddenly the tree falls just as the second cyclist passes underneath it.

The tree narrowly misses the cyclist, landing with a heavy thump behind them.

Commenters on Facebook were incensed by the lack of safety precautions employed by the two arborists.

"My industry is filling with muppets, my insurance premium rises every year because of crap like this," one man wrote.

"Basic saw work is not mastered before being let loose on this stuff, and just in case something does go wrong why not stop the traffic for 20 seconds!"

"No traffic control, the tree is sitting back, no wedges that I can see, glad no one was hurt," another person said.

One commented noted the cyclists were not riding in a cycle or bus lane when the incident occurred, but a person responded to point out they were in the right lane to complete an upcoming turn.
