Dubbed as 'Trolleyman', Michael Rogers rose to fame after attempting to fend off armed attacker Shire Ali during the Melbourne terror attack.

Footage captured by bystanders showed Rogers, 46, ramming a trolley towards attacker Shire Ali after he set fire to his Holden Rodeo last Friday afternoon and attacked members of the public and the police with a knife.

One person was killed and Ali was eventually shot dead by police.

Heartened by Roger's selfless act, grateful citizens donated more than $140,000 on a GoFundMe page created by charity organisation Melbourne Homeless Collective (MHC).

Rogers, who is also a homeless man, was also handed a new phone and $500 in cash by organisers of charity MHC.

Founder of MHC, Donna Stolzenberg wrote on a post, "We would like people to remember that Michael has been through a traumatic event and our priority is to make sure he is okay".

Mr Rogers told The Daily Mail he used the donation money to dine at his favourite restaurant, La Porchetta.

"He also wants to buy a bike and treat his friends to a fancy dinner in the near future", MHC wrote on Facebook.

Rogers also reportedly said that he plans to donate $15,000 to charity.

MHC said that they will constantly aim to be in touch with Rogers and make sure he is mentally and financially supported across all means.

"We'd like to thank everyone who has donated to support Michael. In our eyes he truly is a hero".
