US midterms 2018: The worst attack ads so far

As Republicans and Democrats continue their political war, both sides are resorting to brutal attack ads in an effort to win the 2018 midterm elections.

Newshub has trawled through the worst and created a montage of the worst moments, revealing just how far both sides are willing to sink.

In the Georgia gubernatorial race between Republican Brian Kemp and Democrat Stacey Abrams, Mr Kemp used an ad where he poses with his pickup truck and claims: "I've got a big truck just in case I need to round-up criminal illegals and take them home myself".

Republican Representative Duncan Hunter, from California, approved an advertisement accusing his Palestinian-Mexican-American opponent, Ammar Campa-Najjar, of having ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and trying to "infiltrate" Congress.

In New York, black Democratic lawyer Antonio Delgado's previous career as a rapper has been dragged up and juxtaposed against clips from his own ads.

His lyrics include lines like "gotcha sweatin' this like ya having sex to a porno flick" and "God Bless Iraq". Mr Delgado says these are being taken out of context in an effort to 'other' him.

Democrats have returned fire - in one case hiring Academy Award-nominated director Richard Linklater to direct an ad.

An advertisement from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee shows a corporate board boasting about how they got nearly all of the Republican tax cut while using employees as human furniture.

Another shows bigfoot hunting for Minnesota Republican Rep Erik Paulsen, accusing him of being hard to find and taking money from large pharmaceutical companies.

And Mr Linklater was hired to direct an ad accusing Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz of  being weak for failing to stand up to President Trump after he insulted Mr Cruz's wife and implied his father was involved in the JFK assassination.
