An Australian teenager underwent a dramatic field surgery after his leg became trapped in farming machinery.

The teen became trapped while operating a farming vehicle.

His left leg snagged in a cable, and when he tried to kick it free, he became trapped.

A friend of the man, who was also on the property, called emergency services, reports Yahoo News.

Queensland Ambulance Services, Queensland Fire and Emergency Service and a LifeFlight Rescue Helicopter were called to the farm in the Western Downs region just after 10.30am on Thursday.

The young man had already been trapped for several hours when a second helicopter was called in.

After assessing the teen and his condition two doctors from the LifeFlight helicopter made the difficult decision to amputate his leg right there and then, reports Yahoo News.

Luckily, surgery went smoothly.

The patient was airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.
