Australian detectives are offering a reward of NZ$1 million for information about abducted toddler Cheryl Grimmer.

The three-year-old disappeared from Fairy Meadow beach changing rooms shower in Wollongong, New South Wales (NSW) in 1970.

The family had only just moved from England to Australia before Grimmer's disappearance.

"There are no words to describe the pain of losing a sister and the impact Cheryl's disappearance has had on our entire family.

"Every day we are reminded of the tragic way she was taken from us and we hope this reward is what is needed to bring justice for Cheryl", said Grimmer's brother, Ricki Nash.

The body of the toddler was never recovered.

In 2011 a coroner said Grimmer had died, although the cause of death remains unknown.

On the anniversary of her disappearance, the family are welcoming any information.

"We are appealing to those people who know something but have not previously been inclined to assist police.

"Witnesses at the time reported seeing an unknown male carrying Cheryl towards the car park 50 years ago today, but there has been no trace of her ever since," said detective superintendent Daniel Doherty.

In 2017 a man was arrested and charged with Grimmer's murder, but as the evidence was found as inadmissible, charges were dropped.
