A video of a group of Australian teenagers' efforts to save burnt koala's on South Australia's Kangaroo Island has gone viral.

The video shows the six exhausted koalas perched on seats, lying on the floor of the car and a mother with her joey in the back of the vehicle.

"Just trying to collect as many live ones as we can", one teenager is heard saying.

He goes on to say "little fellas looking a little exhausted."

The camera then films the mother and her baby in the back.

The teenager is heard saying he found them cuddling.

He says he "shoved the mother in the boot because she was a bit aggressive."

Many who viewed the video were touched by the teenagers' actions.

"Amazing ❤ poor babies look terrified," said one person.

"There's still good in the world, people like you to save these innocent fuzz balls. Thank-you," said another.

One person asked people not to take the marsupials off the island.

"PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THEM FROM THE ISLAND! BRING THEM TO THE KANGAROO ISLAND WILDLIFE PARK TO BE ASSESSED AND MEDICALLY TREATED!! AS SOON AS THEY ARE REMOVED FROM THE ISLAND THEY CANNOT COME BACK DUE TO DISEASES ON THE MAINLAND! (sic)"

According to 7news, the marsupials on Kangaroo island are thought to be Australia's only chlamydia-free population.

The fires on Kangaroo Island have taken a drastic toll on the wildlife population.

It's believed the fire wiped out half of the island's koala population, while two people have died in the blaze.

The Guardian reported more than a third of the 160km-long island has burnt.

Residents have attempted to save the burnt, exhausted animals but as some were too burnt, many have been euthanised, reported 7news.
