A seven-year-old girl from America has died after her heart stopped in surgery to get her tonsils removed.

On Friday, Paisley Elizabeth Grace Cogsdill, went into her tonsillectomy at Self Regional Hospital in South Carolina reported WHNS.

Her parents, Austin Cogsdill and Jasmine Truelock, say she died one minute into the procedure. Her heart stopped beating and doctors were unable to save her.

Paisley was a talented student and straight-A 2nd Grader at her elementary school. She had an attitude full of "joy", according to her obituary.

"Going into surgery, she had no fear. She was smiling and happy. Nothing was wrong," Mary Beth Truelock, Paisley's grandmother told WHNS.

The family says the young girl was a healthy child with no issues other than she snored in her sleep. Autopsy results are expected at the start of next week to help clarify the cause of death.

A crowdfunding campaign has been started to help the family with her funeral cost.

They have already fundraised over $65000.
