'Not a big fan': Donald Trump rants about sharks, seals and mosquitos mid-speech

Donald Trump has paused mid-speech to rant about sharks, inadvertently validating claims a pornstar made about him when she alleged the pair had an affair.

The US President went on a tangent about how he was "not a big fan'' of the sea creature during a speech on Thursday (local time).

Trump's shark talk validated Stormy Daniels' claim he was "terrified of sharks" as she recalled him watching the show Shark Week during their alleged affair in 2006.

In the middle of his speech, the President also got distracted by a mosquito.

"I want to get that mosquito," he said. "I don't like... they'll say it's cruelty to animals. I don't know - no it's true!"

"They were saying the other night - They were saying, 'Oh sharks, we have to protect them,' I said, 'Wait a minute, wait.'

"They actually want to remove all the seals in order to save the shark. I said, 'Wait a minute. Don't you have it the other way around?'

"I'm not a big fan of sharks either - I don't know how many votes I am going to lose. I have people calling me up, 'Sir, we have a fund to save the sharks,' I say no thank you, I have other things I can contribute to."

Porn star and actress Stormy Daniels claimed her and Trump had an affair after meeting at a charity golf tournament in July 2006.

"He is obsessed with sharks. Terrified of sharks," she said in an interview with In Touch Weekly in 2011.

"He was like, 'I donate to all these charities and I would never donate to any charity that helps sharks. I hope all sharks die.' He was like, riveted. He was like, obsessed. It's so strange, I know."

Daniels had then sued the President after allegedly being given US$130,000 (NZ$198,900) by his lawyer Michael Cohen in exchange for her silence at the 2016 election.

Trump has continued to deny the allegations.
