Joe Biden's new sign language interpreter has been accused of being a "notorious Trump supporter".

Heather Mewshaw was introduced by White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Monday after the administration announced it would be adding a sign language interpreter to its daily press briefings.

But on Wednesday, TIME revealed Mewshaw manages Hands of Liberty Facebook page, which posts video translations from conservative, right-wing social platforms.

Some of the videos featured vaccine misinformation, conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and the January 6 riots at the Capitol.

In a video captioned "Thank you President Trump from the right side ASL team," Mewshaw was pictured wearing a red 'Make America Great Again' hat and dancing alongside Trump's moves to YMCA.

A petition to have Mewshaw removed from interpreting for the White House has been signed by almost 1,900 people.

"Out of many ASL interpreters, they unknowingly hired a notorious Trump supporter, Heather Mewshaw, to interpret for the White House briefing," the petition wrote.

"The Deaf Community is outraged when they saw her presence."

Mewshaw did not respond to requests for comment after TIME reached out, but on Tuesday, the Hands of Liberty Facebook page was taken down.
