Washington riots in pictures: The wreckage left behind

In the three days since hundreds of supporters of Donald Trump stormed the US Capitol, five people have died, dozens have been criminally charged in connection with the riot, and there are plans to introduce an article of impeachment against the US President.

While the chaos has stopped, those in Washington DC are now faced with the aftermath of the violence and are confronting the clean-up of a tumultuous few days. Many are pointing the finger at the outgoing President - who last year refused to commit to a peaceful transfer - for stoking the violence.

Here are some incredible images showing the destruction the rioters left in their wake.
