An armed robber at a UK McDonald's demanded chicken nuggets from staff but had to flee with a McMuffin because it was too early.

22-year-old Rudi Batten raided a McDonald's near Bristol, England and stole nearly $100 in notes from the till before holding an unloaded .177 air pistol to the head of the store manager forcing him to give access to the store's safe, Bristol Live reported.

The man had already robbed a takeaway called Miss Millie's the night before, fleeing with fried chicken.

While Batten was leaving the McDonald's he demanded staff give him chicken nuggets but was told they were unavailable due to the time being 7am.

Because only the breakfast menu was available and he did not want to wait for staff to make him nuggets, Batten fled with a double sausage McMuffin instead.

The man reportedly stole over $800 from the fast-food restaurant and later turned himself in to police that same day.

By this time he had already been identified by CCTV and it was revealed he was holding what appeared to be the unloaded pistol in his right hand and a knife in his left.

He was sentenced to six years in prison and claimed he robbed the restaurant for money so he could pay back a debt.

Batten is reported to have said while robbing the store: "I'm being forced into doing this. I don't want to do this," according to the news outlet.

His lawyer said that he was ashamed and embarrassed by his actions.
