A US news anchor has been forced to apologise on-air after she was arrested after being found passed out and naked at the driver's wheel of her Audi.

Las Vegas police claim Fox 5 host Feven Kiflegiorgis stumbled from her car reeking of alcohol after officers showed up and refused to submit her blood, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

The news anchor, known as Feven Kay, told the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department she could not remember how she got there.

Kiflegiorgis was arrested at around 7:30am on March 20 when she was found in her car in a residential area on a street called Matthew Avenue.

"Many of you have noticed I've been off-air for a few weeks," Kiflegiorgis said in a statement aired on Fox 5. "As I move forward, I want you to know I have learned from this and I will continue learning."

She was charged with reckless driving with a disregard for the safety of a person or property and ordered to pay a US$1000 fine and attend driving school.

Kiflegiorgis is the early morning weekday anchor for Fox 5 Las Vegas and is originally from Ethiopia.

The news anchor started her career at a news station in Los Angeles before moving to Nevada to work for Fox 5 in 2018.

She is dedicated to being a "voice for the voiceless," according to her biography on the Fox 5 site.

Kiflegiorgis is scheduled to host a Las Vegas Disney concert on May 3.
