Small plane crashes into houses in San Diego suburb of Santee

A small plane crashed into multiple houses on Tuesday morning (NZ time) with fire engulfing properties as a result of the crash.

At this stage the number of injured or any information about the aircraft involved is unknown, however eyewitnesses described the aircraft as similar to a Cessna in size.

The crash happened just one block away from a high school and less than a kilometre away from San Diego Gillespie Field Airport.

Footage broadcast on local television shows two homes and a UPS delivery truck completely destroyed, with smoke still visible coming from the homes.

The San Diego Fire Department has confirmed they are on scene attempting to put the fire out.
