President Joe Biden called Fox News reporter Peter Doocy a "stupid son of a bitch" live on microphone at a White House event.
Biden slammed the White House reporter after he asked him a question about inflation at the end of a photo opportunity in the East Wing.
"Do you think inflation is a political liability going into the midterms?" Doocy said in the video circulating Twitter.
"No, it's a great asset," President Biden said sarcastically. "More inflation. What a stupid son of a bitch."
The event was a White House Competition Council Meeting on efforts to fight inflation.
Doocy later told Fox News the president called him around an hour after the exchange.
"He said 'It's nothing personal, pal'," Doocy said. "I'm always gonna try to ask something different than what everybody else is asking. And he said 'You got to'."
This is not the first time the pair have butted heads.
When the president gave his first press release of 2022, Doocy asked him why he was pulling the United States "so far to the left", the Independent reported.
President Biden could be heard laughing before defending himself as a "mainstream Democrat... not Bernie Sanders".
Biden has been known to become frustrated with reporters' questions.
Similarly last week he laughed at a Fox News correspondent after they asked him if he is waiting for Russian President Vladimir Putin to make the first move, Fox News reported.
"What a stupid question," he responded.
The White House later walked back Biden's comment.
