An off-duty Queensland police officer has been stood down after allegedly headbutting a 14-year-old boy outside a McDonald's restaurant.

The officer approached a group of teenagers outside Dalby McDonald's on Sunday morning demanding to know who had said something insulting to him.

But what happened next was shocking.

The officer allegedly slammed his head into the boy, who had his hands in the air.

The alleged assault was captured on camera. In the video supplied to 7News, the officer asked a group of youths "what badge have I got right now, c***?", and "which one of you c**** said that?".

There was pushing and swearing between the group and the officer, and the 14-year-old asked the officer to "punch [him]".

"You've got three seconds to walk away or I headbutt you," the officer then said in the video.

"You're a pig, you're nothing without the badge… push me. It's self-defence," the boy replied.

The boy then put his hands up before he was allegedly headbutted by the officer.

"Hit me then, c****... Go on... Which one of you c**** want to have a go?"  the officer said soon after.

The scuffle ended when an on-duty police officer arrives.

7News reported the off-duty officer has been stood down while an investigation into his actions is being conducted.
