Aviation giant Airbus flew into Auckland last night to show off its latest model, the A350.

The twin-engine aircraft burns 25 percent less fuel than aircraft of a similar size, and it's bigger than Boeing's Dreamliner.

Airbus says the A350's extra-wide body adds much needed cabin space to long haul flights.

"It's 18 inches between the armrests for all the economy class passengers," says Stefanie von Linstow, Airbus interiors marketing manager. "You have quite vertical sidewalls as well, so enhancing the space for those sitting next to the windows."

The aircraft and its distinctive upturned wingtips will be on display at Auckland Airport until this afternoon.
