Buy a tractor, get a free farm? Only on TradeMe

TradeMe is a popular stop for anyone in the market for a new piece of farm machinery, but one Southland couple have ensured that whoever buys their tractor will be getting a little extra to boot.

The International 574 is just a regular old tractor - bucket, back blade, red - but the old girl does come with one rather unusual added feature: a farm.

Shelley and Alan Holland put their 8.1h block in the Catlins up as an added bonus for whoever wins the tractor auction, and the unusual approach seems to have worked.

Interest in the tractor/farm sale has gone truly global. Among the scores of comments are entries from Singapore, Norway, Japan and even Borneo.

TradeMe say the approach is not uncommon, just not for property.

Although the auction's $1 reserve has been well and truly surpassed, it did cause the Hollands some sleepless nights.

The gamble has prompted much admiration from TradeMe users.

The couple admit the interest has caught them by surprise.

A short time ago bidding was up to $170,000, with just over a week left to run.
