Cadbury's Creme Egg recipe change hard to swallow

The return of the Cadbury Creme Egg has left a bittersweet taste in the mouths of chocolate lovers with the revelation of a recipe tweak.

The shell was originally made from Cadbury dairy milk chocolate, but is now being made with another type, and it's something fans find hard to swallow.

Dairy milk fans say that the change is criminal, calling for Cadbury to leave the recipe alone, while others came to their own conclusions about the reason for the change up.

Chocolate fan Dwayne Yule believes that "to go from any sort of real chocolate to a substitute chocolate is a bit of a cop-out really".

The change has caused even more of an outrage on social media with some users even accusing Cadbury of ruining Easter.

The company has released a statement saying "the fundamentals of the Cadbury Creme Egg remain exactly the same - delicious milk chocolate and the unique creme centre that consumers love".

"We have always used a range of milk-chocolate blends for different products, depending on their shape or consistency. Cadbury Creme Egg now uses a standard, traditional Cadbury milk chocolate for its shell."

Cadbury didn't return calls from 3 News but have told other media that New Zealand creme eggs will be affected.
