Capital + Merchant Finance director Owen Tallentire has plead guilty to making an untrue statement in a prospectus.

The Financial Markets Authority laid three charges under the Securities Act, two of making an untrue statement in a prospectus and one of distributing advertisments including an untrue statement. He pled guilty to all charges.

The FMA has welcomed his plea.

"This case is a further illustration of the importance of holding to account those who are responsible for untrue statements made to investors in offer documents, particularly in cases such as this where the conduct is particularly serious and the market impact is great," the FMA’s head of enforcement Belinda Moffatt said in a statement.

Tallentire will be sentenced on March 15. He is currently serving a five-year sentence after being found guilty of two charges of theft.

Prosecution against other directors on similar charges relating to untrue statements will begin on February 11.
