Award-winning craft brewery Emerson’s has been bought by Lion NZ, the company has confirmed.
The Dunedin-based brewery said the deal – effective on November 30 – is an “exciting new chapter”, however it will continue to operate as a stand-alone company, with the same 12 staff, producing the same range of beers.
Founder Richard Emerson said it is “business as usual” for Emerson’s.
“The taste, integrity to style, quality and consistency of our beers will remain the same,” he said.
"Lion's ownership allows us to continue doing what we do well – experimenting and brewing great beer. We will now have the backing to help us to realise our growth aspirations".
Mr Emerson says the company remains committed to retaining the brand’s distinctive character and authenticity.
“Emerson’s is a fantastic brand with a rich story and iconic beers,” says Lion NZ managing director Rory Glass, adding that the range “complements Lion’s existing beer portfolio”.
“[It] allows us to offer our customers an enhanced proposition with a leading portfolio of brands across the specialty, boutique and popular craft market.”
Mr Emerson, general manager Bob King and brewing manager Chris O’Leary will retain the day to day running of the Emerson’s operations. All other roles within the Emerson’s business will remain unchanged.
